Highland scenery in northern Tanzania with cloud over the ridges

Tanzania

Mount Kilimanjaro

Africa's highest summit — a walkable glacier at the equator.

Overview

Kilimanjaro rises alone out of the plains to 5,895 metres, and reaching Uhuru Peak requires no technical climbing — only time, patience and good acclimatisation.

Routes range from six to nine days. Longer routes dramatically improve summit success, and we plan conservatively for exactly that reason.

Why visit

  • One of the world's most attainable great summits
  • Five distinct climate zones in a single climb
  • Pairs naturally with a northern-circuit safari
  • Well-run, ethically staffed trekking crews

Things to do

  • Machame, Lemosho and Rongai routes
  • Shorter Shira plateau treks
  • Acclimatisation hikes on Mount Meru
  • Day hikes in the rainforest zone
