Tanzania Travel Information: Before You Go

21 October 2026 · 5 min read

Prepare for your journey with practical visa, health, insurance, clothing, currency and power information.

Passports & visas

Many travellers need a Tanzania visa. Prepare a passport valid for at least six months from entry, a blank visa page, an onward ticket and itinerary or accommodation information. Requirements and fees vary by nationality and can change; check Tanzania Immigration's official eVisa service before travel: https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa.

Health & insurance

Consult a travel clinic about vaccinations, malaria prevention and your individual medical needs. Yellow fever certificate requirements depend on your origin and transit history; confirm current rules with official authorities. Use insect repellent, suitable clothing and mosquito nets where provided.

Travel insurance covering medical treatment, cancellation and evacuation is mandatory for WildMiles Safaris journeys. Disclose relevant medical conditions when booking.

Weather & clothing

June to October is generally dry, with cooler mornings. Rainier periods bring lush scenery and potentially muddy roads. Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer, a hat and comfortable walking shoes.

Currency, language & power

The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling. Confirm payment options with your lodge and carry banknotes in good condition. Swahili is the national language and English is widely used in tourism. Tanzania uses 230V power with Type D and G sockets; a universal adapter is useful.
